Currently, cyclists have limited options when it comes to safety equipment. Most products on the market use small LEDs placed close together on the bike. However, Nathan Wills recognized that the rider is the largest surface area on a bike and decided to create the largest lit surface possible. By integrating 10 LED lights into the helmet and placing them up high, the T1 ensures that the rider is visible over traffic and other road obstacles.

The T1 is an in-mold constructed bike helmet that weighs only 366 grams. It features two shatter-proof polycarbonate lenses that not only protect the electronics but also contribute to the helmet's structural integrity. With its width of 230mm, depth of 280mm, and height of 200mm, the T1 remains lightweight while making the rider visible from all directions.

Operating the lights is simple and convenient. The lights can be controlled independently in the front or rear of the helmet using a push-button set in each lens. With five different functions, including steady-high, steady-low, flash, and fast flash, cyclists can choose the mode that suits their visibility needs. Recharging the two integrated batteries is quick and easy, taking only 1.5 hours with the included USB cable.

The T1 bike helmet project started in February 2012 as a design concept and concluded in December 2013. All design and engineering work took place in Los Angeles, CA, with production in China. Despite the challenges of fitting all the electronics into the helmet without compromising its safety function, the T1 has passed all CPSC and CE requirements, ensuring its effectiveness as a bicycle safety helmet.

The T1 bike helmet has received recognition for its innovation and excellence. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Safety Clothing and Personal Protective Equipment Design category in 2015.
